Penrith 'Making Friends Across Boundaries' Day October 25th 2025

About 40 Quakers gathered in Penrith Meeting House for a day to make friends and discuss questions and qualms about the Crossing Boundaries initiative. Crossing Boundaries is an attempt to merge certain administrative functions between nine Area Meetings in the North of England to free up more time for Quaker spiritual life. It follows in the footsteps of similar actions in Wales, Yorkshire and London to simplify legal structures.

The day was spent between answering questions, relatively straightforward things with straightforward answers; and identifying qualms, complex things that are going to need more time to work on. Ultimately, no decisions are reached at these more informational events - that's up to the individual Area Meetings, in dialogue with each other via the Crossing Boundaries reps. So if you want to do discernment on decisions related to Crossing Boundaries, all you need to do is turn up to Area Meeting. But maybe also to these kind of events so you can be kept up to date with details.
